Product description

Cebion is a drug in the form of oral drops containing vitamin C (ascorbic acid), which is needed for the proper functioning of the human body:

  • strengthens the immune system, especially in the period of increased morbidity and in the autumn and winter.
  • participates in many enzymatic reactions, including in the synthesis of collagen and catecholamines, hydroxylation of steroids, tyrosine and exogenous substances,
  • increases the absorption of iron salts,
  • has antioxidant properties, thanks to which it inhibits chain reactions of free radicals.

Cebion is a medicine, not a food supplement, and can be used in infants from 28 days of age, children, adolescents and adults.

Indications

Prevention and treatment of vitamin C deficiency states when an adequate diet is not enough.

Composition

1 ml (approx. 20 drops) of the solution contains:

  • active substance: vitamin C in the form of ascorbic acid (acidum ascorbicum) 100mg,
  • excipient: glycerol 87%.

Action

Replenishment of vitamin C deficiency in the body.

Dosage

  • Infants and small children (from the 28th day of life to the end of the 23rd month of life): 5 drops a day, preferably by adding to a liquid (milk bottles or a spoon with milk, tea or fruit juice).
  • Children (from 24 months to the end of 11 years of age): 10 drops a day.
  • Adolescents (from 12 years of age) and adults: 15-20 drops a day.

In case of a higher need for vitamin C, doses can be taken twice a day. Use the medicine exactly as described in the leaflet or as directed by your doctor. Check with your doctor or pharmacist if you are not sure. In children up to 3 years of age, the drug should be administered after consulting a doctor.

Contraindications

  • Allergy to ascorbic acid or any of the other ingredients of the drug.
  • Kidney stones.
  • Increased uric acid concentration found in the patient during the history.
  • Disturbances in the accumulation (storage) of iron in the body (thalassemia, haemochromatosis, sideroblastic anaemia).
  • Stomach ulcer disease.
  • Caution should be exercised when using the drug in patients with an enzymatic defect of red blood cells, e.g. deficiency of erythrocyte glucose-6-phosphate dehydrogenase: do not use doses of ascorbic acid above 4g/day.
  • Caution should be exercised in severe or end-stage renal failure: high doses of ascorbic acid may contribute to the formation of urinary stones.

Storage

  • The drug should be stored out of the sight and reach of small children, at a temperature below 25 ° C.
  • After opening, use no longer than 3 months; after this time, the residue should be discarded.
  • Do not use after the expiry date stated on the packaging.

Side effects

Cebion, like all medicines, can cause side effects, but not everybody gets them.

  • Skin and respiratory hypersensitivity reactions have been observed in isolated cases.
  • Headache, gastrointestinal disturbances (including nausea, vomiting, diarrhoea, abdominal pain, dyspepsia) and polyuria have been reported at high doses.
  • Long-term use of increased doses can lead to kidney stones.
  • After taking a single dose of more than 3 g, transient osmotic diarrhea with characteristic abdominal symptoms may occur. Diarrhea is almost always present after taking doses above 10g. In this case, the drug should be discontinued.

interactions

  • Ascorbic acid increases the absorption of aluminum in the gastrointestinal tract: inform your doctor about the use of aluminum-containing antacids, especially in the presence of renal failure.
  • Renal excretion of ascorbic acid may be enhanced by concomitant use of salicylates.
  • High levels of ascorbic acid (obtained in the urine after doses above 1 g) may affect the results of laboratory tests: determination of glucose, uric acid, creatinine, inorganic phosphates and detection of occult blood in the stool (may give false negative results). Other chemical detection methods based on color reactions can also be adulterated.
  • Concomitant use of deferoxamine may increase the toxic effect of iron on tissues, especially the heart, causing its failure.

Warnings and precautions

  • Ask your doctor or pharmacist for advice before taking this medicine if you are pregnant or breast-feeding, think you may be pregnant or are planning to have a baby.
  • Do not use the drug during pregnancy without medical supervision.
  • Ascorbic acid crosses the placental barrier and is excreted in human milk. The stated dose should not be exceeded during breastfeeding.
  • Ascorbic acid has no influence on the ability to drive and use machines.
