Health Clotrimazole antifungal ointment Aflofarm 20 g

Clotrimazole Aflofarm is a drug in the form of a cream intended for topical use. The active substance is clotrimazole.

How does clotrimazole work?

Clotrimazole kills most of the fungi that cause human infections. Clotrimazole works especially against fungi that attack the skin: yeasts and dermatophytes.

Clotrimazole is used for local treatment of:

• athlete's foot, groin, body, skin between the toes, including athlete's foot with secondary infection (e.g. athlete 's foot) caused by dermatophytes,
• fungal infections of the skin and mucous membranes of the external genitalia (labia, foreskin and glans) caused by yeasts (also called candidiasis),
• pityriasis versicolor .

Clotrimazole Aflofarm - composition

1 g of Clotrimazole cream contains:

• active substance: clotrimazole 10 mg,
• excipients: cetyl alcohol, stearyl alcohol, cetyl palmitate, octyldodecanol, sorbitan stearate, polysorbate 60, benzyl alcohol, purified water.

Antifungal. Clotrimazole cream contains the active ingredient clotrimazole, which kills most of the fungi that cause human infections. The drug works especially against yeasts and dermatophytes - fungi that attack the skin.

How to use Clotrimazole Aflofarm cream?

• Apply a thin layer of Clotrimazole to the affected area and adjacent area twice a day (morning and evening).
• Wash and dry the skin thoroughly before applying the medicine.
• Treatment of fungal infections of the skin should last no less than 4 weeks, also when the symptoms of the disease disappear. Failure to follow this recommendation may result in recurrence of the infection. Acute symptoms of the disease subside after about a week of using the drug.
• Treatment of fungal infections of the mucous membranes of the external genitalia should last from one to two weeks.
• If your symptoms worsen or there is no improvement after a week of use, you should contact your doctor.

• Allergy to clotrimazole or any of the ingredients of the drug.
• Renal impairment.
• I trimester of pregnancy.
• Clotrimazole Aflofarm should not be used vaginally or in the eyes.
• Do not use in children under 11 years of age. Children under 11 years of age and the elderly (over 65 years of age) may use the drug only on the order of a doctor.

• Keep Clotrimazole out of the sight and reach of children, in the original packaging, at a temperature below 25˚C.
• Do not freeze.
• Shelf life after first opening the tube is 28 days.
• Do not use this medicine after the expiry date which is stated on the tube and carton after EXP. The expiration date refers to the last day of the given month.
• Medicines should not be disposed of via wastewater or household waste. Ask your pharmacist how to throw away medicines you no longer use. Such behavior will help to protect the environment.

Like all medicines, this medicine can cause side effects, although not everybody gets them.

Contact your doctor immediately or go to the emergency department of your nearest hospital if you experience any of the following symptoms, as you may need urgent medical attention:

• general hypersensitivity reaction (symptoms include a rash, severe swelling of the face, mouth or throat that makes it difficult to breathe, speak or swallow, decrease in blood pressure, slow or fast pulse, paleness, restlessness, sweating, dizziness, loss of consciousness, stopping breathing and working hearts).

The following side effects may also occur:

• erythema (severe redness of the skin),
• rash (itchy red bumps on the skin)
• hives (light pink, itchy bumps on the skin)
• local redness, itching, pimples, swelling.

If the above-mentioned symptoms occur, stop taking Clotrimazole and contact your doctor.

Tell your doctor or pharmacist if you are taking or have recently taken or might take any other medicines.

The following drugs should not be used simultaneously with Clotrimazole Aflofarm:

• polyene antibiotics ( nystatin and natamycin) used topically, as clotrimazole may inhibit their effect,
• topical glucocorticoids (called steroids) to treat inflammation, as they may reduce the effect of clotrimazole.

Talk to your doctor or pharmacist before taking Clotrimazole Aflofarm:

• if you are taking medicines that suppress the immune system (so-called immunosuppressants, used in patients after organ transplants or e.g. in atopic dermatitis),
• if you are receiving chemotherapy
• if you have diabetes
• if you are infected with HIV,
• if you are allergic to itraconazole, fluconazole, ketoconazole or miconazole (medicines used to treat fungal infections).

Pregnancy and breastfeeding

• If you are pregnant or breast-feeding, think you may be pregnant or are planning to have a baby, ask your doctor or pharmacist for advice before taking this medicine.
• Clotrimazole Aflofarm should not be used during the first trimester of pregnancy.
• In the second and third trimester of pregnancy, the use of the drug is possible at the explicit request of a doctor and only if, in the opinion of a doctor, it is necessary.
• Breastfeeding women can use the drug only on the advice of a doctor.

Driving and using machines

• The drug does not impair the ability to drive and use machines.

Clotrimazole cream contains cetyl alcohol, stearyl alcohol and benzyl alcohol

• Cetyl and stearyl alcohol may cause a local skin reaction (e.g. contact dermatitis).
• The medicine contains 10 mg of benzyl alcohol in each gram of cream. Benzyl alcohol may cause allergic reactions or mild local irritation.
